Maryam Montazeri is an Iranian artist and mangaka working in the fields of animation, figurative painting, and narrative illustration. She has pursued her academic training in painting and animation both in Iran and Japan. Her works reflect deep social concerns, especially focusing on the position of women and marginalized groups such as LGBTQ+ individuals.
In her artistic projects, Maryam often portrays women as heroes, guardians of nature, and agents of change. Gender boundaries are blurred in her art, creating a space for rethinking identity, power, and empathy. The anime she designs are based on multi-layered, plot-driven narratives that balance visual aesthetics with strong storytelling structure.
Maryam has teaching experience at the university level, has participated in several group exhibitions, and has contributed to public art projects. She sees anime as a powerful medium for expressing ideas that are often overlooked in Iran’s mainstream art discourse.
